Have you ever tried to have a conversation with someone to correct their behaviour and ended up either in an argument or having to defend yourself?
It’s not pleasant, is it? And it’s unlikely the other person changes, so it doesn’t encourage you to have another go.

That said, we aren’t always ‘squeaky clean’ when receiving criticism of our own work or ideas. It can seem such a personal attack we get defensive and are back again in an argument or having to defend our own behaviour.
