The Executive Certificate in Corporate Governance

The Executive Certificate in Corporate Governance is designed to provide Accounting professionals with a basic but comprehensive introduction to the issues surrounding Australian Corporate regulation, with a particular emphasis on Corporate Governance.

The Executive Certificate in Corporate Governance is available to members at a cost of $660 for all five sessions, or individually at $165 per session.

Session 1         Thursday July 12, 1 – 3 PM

Australian Corporations Regulation

Pat Mangan

This session examines the regime of legal regulations for Australian company directors, with an overview of the common law and the Corporations Act. Attendees will gain an appreciation of the legal responsibilities, expectations and duties of directors and company officers, and how these contribute to effective corporate governance.

Session 2         Thursday August 2, 1 – 3 PM

Regulatory compliance & corporate governance

Barrie Adams

This session explores the interaction between the law and corporate governance and looks at simplifying the governance needs. The key legal issues will be explored and consideration given to how corporate governance can work for your business. Areas and processes that can assist you and your business to keep the regulators from your door will be discussed and explained.

Session 3         Thursday August 16, 1 – 3 PM

Australian Financial Reporting Requirements

David Sauer

What financial reporting rules must you follow?  In Australia, the combination of Commonwealth and State laws, accounting standards, regulated entities and a patchwork of exceptions and tiered structures makes this a potentially confusing question.  This session shows you how to ask the key questions that unlock the answers.  It includes the latest developments on the Reduced Disclosure Requirements, company reporting and special purpose financial statements.

Session 4         Thursday August 30, 1 – 3 PM

Fair Work and Corporate Governance

Nick Tindley

The Fair Work Act commenced on 1 January 2010, but many are still struggling to come to terms with the way the Act has changed minimum conditions of employment.  With regulators moving from education to enforcement, it is absolutely vital that employers ensure they are meeting their obligations to their employees.  This session will step participants through all aspects of the safety net entitlements created by the Fair Work Act, as well as the requirements for keeping employee records.

Session 5         Thursday September 13, 1 – 3 PM

Risk Management and Corporate Governance

Barrie Adams

This session explores the links between Corporate Governance and Risk Management to identify, assess and manage the risks and opportunities for your business.

The drivers for the effective management of risks will be addressed from the perspective of Directors, Shareholders, Stakeholders and Internal and External Auditors. The law impacting on the need for effective risk management is also addressed.

Who Should attend?

The Executive Certificate is particularly suited to members needing to refresh or upgrade their knowledge of Australian corporate governance regulation and practice.

Attendees who complete all five sessions will be issued with a signed IPA Executive Certificate in Corporate Governance attesting to their having undertaken 10 hours of structured CPE.
